Understanding how intelligent systems work

Chih-Yi "Ethan" Chen (陳之邑)  M.Sc.

Research Assistant

I am a Research Assistant in Brain and Mind Sciences at National Taiwan University (NTU). My academic journey began with a B.A. in Economics and a B.S. in Psychology, with a Minor in Computer Science from National Chengchi University (NCCU). During my undergraduate years, I conducted research in NCCU’s Biopsychology and Computational Modeling Labs, focusing on the roles of specific brain regions in decision-making using reinforcement learning models.

In September 2021, I commenced my master’s studies at NTU’s Brain and Mind Lab, culminating in the completion of my M.Sc. in January 2024. My thesis examined age-related differences in decision-making strategies concerning environmental choice-outcome mappings.

My research interests revolve around computational cognitive science and neuroeconomics, particularly the interplay between model-free and model-based learning in decision-making processes.

Beyond academia, I enjoy indie and alternative rock music, and I am proficient in both drums and guitar. Additionally, I’ve contributed as a percussionist to both high school wind band and the university symphony orchestra. Lately, I have been spending more time at the gym and practicing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
