Kuan-Ying "Trev" Chou (周冠穎)
Undergraduate Assistant
Kuan-Ying is a senior undergraduate majoring in Psychology at National Taiwan University (NTU), with a minor in Neurobiology and Cognitive Science. His interest in cognitive aging initially led him to join the Brain and Mind Lab (BML) through a summer program at the Neurobiology and Cognitive Science Centre. During this time, Kuan-Ying gained exposure to various techniques for studying the human mind, such as MRI, neuropsychological assessments, event-related potential, and cognitive experimental design. This foundational experience ignited his enthusiasm for research and has since fueled his ongoing involvement in the lab, where he continues to collaborate with and learn from excellent fellow researchers.
Currently, Kuan-Ying is advancing the work on the “Conceptual Generalization and Adaptation” project, utilizing neuroimaging techniques, supported by a university student scholarship from the National Science and Technology Council. This study investigates the structure of conceptual knowledge, aiming to provide empirical evidence for the cognitive map while focusing on individual differences in concept learning. The research hypothesizes the existence of two distinct learning profiles: generalization-prioritized and adaptation-prioritized learners, drawing an analogy from the philosophical metaphor of the hedgehog and the fox.
Outside of his academic work, Kuan-Ying enjoys practicing yoga, working out, and listening to slowcore, Baroque pop and classical music. His love for language learning has also led him to serve as a Teaching Assistant for both French and English courses at NTU, where he finds fulfillment in applying his skills to teaching and helping others learn.
