Understanding how intelligent systems work

Lin-han "Hannah" Huang (黃麟涵)  B.Sc. M.Sc.

Research Assistant

Primarily born and raised in Taiwan, Hannah embarked on her overseas student life after completing her secondary school studies. She earned a B.Sc. Honors degree in Molecular Biotechnology at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, with a minor in the German language. Her Bachelor’s thesis was titled “Cloning of full-length Dust Mite Allergen Tyr p 24, 26 & 30 group,” under the guidance of Prof. Stephen Kwok Wing Tsui. [Link]

As part of her degree, she spent a semester at the University of Zurich, Switzerland. Towards the end of her sophomore year, she completed a summer project aimed at dissecting the neural circuits of Drosophila using optogenetic tools under the supervision of Dr. Suewei Lin at Academia Sinica, Taiwan. After her time in Hong Kong, she relocated to Switzerland and studied Neurobiology at the University of Zurich. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, she moved back to Taiwan and later joined Prof. Joshua Goh’s lab, switching her research focus to cognitive neuroscience. She obtained her M.Sc. degree in Brain and Mind Sciences at National Taiwan University in May 2023 and is currently working as a research assistant in the lab.

Drawing on her previous experiences and multicultural exposure, her curiosity about how innate thinking styles differ among people living in diverse environments motivated her to further investigate the cultural effects on resting-state brain functional connectivity between young adults in the U.S. (Great Boston area) and Taiwan using advanced fMRI analysis methods for her master’s thesis. This project is collaborated with Prof. Angela Gutchess, Brandeis University. [Link] Her research interests now extend to aging, decision-making, perception, and social psychological topics as well.

In spheres other than academia, Hannah enjoys her time in music appreciation (regular indie rock and classical music concertgoer), learning languages, traveling, and exploring exotic cuisine through cooking.
