Wooyoung Kang (강우영, 姜宇映) Ph. D.
Postdoctoral Associate
Wooyoung Kang obtained her joint Master’s and Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Sciences at Korea University College of Medicine, Seoul, Korea with the dissertation titled “The Resting Brain of Mood Disorder and its Functional Connectivity: fMRI study”.
During her postgraduate, she investigated the brain of psychiatric disorders, especially mood disorders (e.g. major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder) by neuroimaging techniques spanning the whole brain to specific brain regions (ROI).
Biography She was born and raised in South Korea. She was 17 years old, before graduating from her high school, when she decided to study neurosciences. She moved to England on her own and completed her A-levels there. She obtained BSc (Hons) Psychology from the University of Nottingham, where she spent two years studying in Malaysia and one year in England. After she completed her bachelor’s studies, she returned to Korea and did her joint master’s and doctoral studies at Korea University College of Medicine.
Personally, She has a Taiwanese husband and a 6-years-old child.
Research Interests She is interested in how the brain works healthily and efficiently. Specifically, she wants to explore the brain mechanisms that interpret the surroundings to maintain inner peace of mind, and relationships with other people, utilising own internal sources that might be given from birth and/or learned from experiences. She believes the brain plays a key role in mental health, and so, continues to investigate how the brain works interconnected with self and the world. Technically, she is specialised in brain imaging. She is now a part of project called “Decoding and Promoting Resilient Brains: from Multivariate Profiling to Intervention”.
